         <description><![CDATA[[August 6, 2010] Last month, we reported that Greenpeace issued a report accusing Asia Pulp and Paper and owner Sinar Mas Group of ecologically unfriendly forestry practices and destroying endangered animal habitats, while APP issued a denial of any wrongdoing. Since then, the war of words has escalated, and the Programme for the Endorsement of Certification (PEFC) has joined the fray, publishing some press releases and letters related to Greenpeace’s assertion that APP’s products use pulp from illegal or controversial sources.]]></description>

         <title><![CDATA[Asia Pulp and Paper Loses Business after Greenpeace Issues Critical Report]]></title>

         <description><![CDATA[[July 19, 2010] Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) has found itself at the center of an environmental controversy after Greenpeace issued a July 6 report that was highly critical of the environmental practices of the paper maker and its owner, the Sinar Mas Group. APP was quick to issue its own response. Wherever the truth lies—with Greenpeace, with APP, or somewhere between—the Greenpeace report has already had an effect on APP’s business. Current APP customers were singled out in the Greenpeace report. So far, at least one of these customers has said it will stop purchasing APP paper, and another is looking to minimize its ties with the papermaker.]]></description>
